Published in Edinburgh by Adam & Charles Black in 1854, this finely engraved map, The Netherlands, now divided into Holland and Belgium, presents a detailed portrait of the Low Countries in the mid-19th century.
Hand-tinted districts, engraved relief, and depictions of swamps and forests capture both the natural and political landscape of a region defined by water and history.

Drawn and engraved by Sidney Hall and William Hughes, two of Britain’s foremost geographers, this map appeared in Black’s General Atlas of the World, a landmark publication celebrated for its precision and artistry.
Restored and printed on archival paper, this piece offers an elegant window into the post-Napoleonic geography of Holland and Belgium, at a time when Europe’s borders were newly redrawn.
